My husbands parents are coming here India to visit. This will be their first and probably only visit here so we want to take them to as many places as we can. We live in Ct and will go around here like NYC, Niagara Falls for the first week while they attempt to get rid of their jet lag.
Here are some places we are thinking about:
Lake George, Ny,
Niagara Falls, Ny
Mount Rushmore, Sd
Badlands National Park, Sd
Yellowstone, Id, Mt
Glacier National Park – Iceberg Lake, Mt
Yosemite, Mt
Bryce, Zion, Capitol Reef, Ut
Grand Canyon, Az
Lassen Volcanic National Park, Ca
My husband is insisting on driving but I am not sure if it is possible as we have a 2 yr old. We have to stay in a hotel that has a kitchen because they have never eaten anything other than Indian food and they won’t be used to the food here right away. Any suggestions on how to see most of the places I have mentioned? We can start from this side and end in Ca. I was thinking to fly to LA and then start the drive but I don’t know. Suggestions Plz.
You have described a trip that will take about 3 weeks if you are going to do any actual sightseeing. And if you are going to the Grand Canyon you had may as well go to Las Vegas as well.
If you have to cook Indian food for them, you will be spending too much time cooking and seeing very little. They can eat Indian takeout or they can try some American food. Besides part of the reason for a holiday is to see and experience the culture where they are visiting. If you make it like at home, they will not get value out of their vacation.
Remember that this is a huge country. It took me 4 days with only a little sight seeing to drive from LA to West Virginia.
If you fly to LA and drive back, do note that a one way car rental is quite expensive. And they are not always available. And for 4 adults and a 2 year old, you will need a big car. Like a Chevrolet Impala or the like.
You’ll be driving a lot. Badlands you can see most of the same stuff from the interstate. Custer State Park is far better than a make work project that is Mt. Rushmore. The black hills are a good area after driving across the prairies. Yellowstone come in from Cody, Wy. and leave via West Yellowstone. Take your time its large and unfolds overtime. Take a side trip to the Grand Tetons and forget Glacier, With global warming there are very few glaciers left. All of Utah is good. You may wish to see Monument Valley the back drop to most of the Westerns, TV and Movies. Yosemite be sure to see the redwoods Grand Canyon both sides and there is a lot of stuff to see around Flagstaff. Yellowstone, Zion, Yosemite and the Grand Canyon with Yellowstone with the wildlife and geo activity the main site.
