   try at Chowk or at Panvel, both are nearby. Neral is at foothills & can be tried.

   Please note that it is not a clever idea to stay around Matheran town, since Neral is the only place that is closest to it. Matheran is a two hour journey by “Mini train” one way and the transportation by motor vehicles are only till Dasturi point from where you need to climb the rest of the path by foot. The hotels in Neral too are not worth staying. There is absolutely nothing in Neral. It happens to be the only station in the vicinity of Matheran.

   On the contrary you can find very good hotels in Matheran town itself for the budget you have mentioned. It is also a pleasure to stay at the top of the mountain instead of the valley. From the hotel in Matheran you can visit various points easily. Of all you save a lot of time, money and energy by being in Matheran town !!!
