I’m going to malta on holiday and I have seen hotels in areas such as;
MELLIEHA, SAN LAWRENZ, ATTARD, MARFA
They are cheap but would ould I be better staying in VALLETTA , ST JULIANS or SLIEMA – So that I am near places to eat/drink etc without having to travel to much?

when i was last there i stay at Quarra and found it handy to get to anywhere i wanted to get to. Mellieha is far out. Sliema seems less scenic, Valetta i would not reccomend at all.
St Julians is also very nice. Anywhere have good places to eat and now the buses criss cross Malta; but one used
to go into Valletta to get a bus to elsewhere. Do not expect to find the variety of shops and fashion that you find in the UK
Enjoy the history of Malta.
I visited Malta last year in March and lived in Sliema. It was quite a nice neighbourhood, perhaps more for somewhat older people or families with children. St. Julians is also nice, perhaps a bit more of nightlife there. Valletta is the capital of Malta and I guess therefore more expensive, but a “must to see” place.
Don´t know the other areas, but Malta is a rather small island, so those places cannot differ much from any other than being new places built for tourists, which I suspect. You will not have any difficulties with the distances, as you almost could walk around the island in one day (perhaps I´m exaggerating, but you will find out when being there). You are always near places where to eat/drink. Be assured.
Have a nice holiday, Malta is nice, interesting and the people are nice. Most of them speak English as Malta has two official languages English and Maltese.The currency is euro from beginning of this year.
