Well at the airport there is a hotel but i don’t recommend it, it’s very expensive it’s about $500 a day so i recommend hotel novotel the beds are really soft and the rooms are very modern. and If you want something a bit more in the city there’s the Harbour Plaza North Point Hotel and just something extra the best malls are in Taikoo and causeway bay and in Tsim Sha Tsui(Kowloon) but the hotels i recommended they might not be the best for a 4 person family but they will send up extra beds.

You asked specifically about Hong Kong Island. In Causeway Bay (Hong Kong Island), look at Holiday Inn Express. Their double room has one double bed with a double fold-out sleeper sofa. The rooms are very small, but also very efficiently set up and it includes wireless internet. Technically these rooms only sleeps three (I think) but two children ought to be able to do okay on it. It kind of depends on the age of the children and how crowded you’re willing to be. I personally have managed it before with no problem, with a younger child. Preschoolers would do fine, but teenagers would probably like more space.

Remember that in Hong Kong, public transportation is excellent. If you stay on the tip of Kowloon, you’ll be right at the Star Ferry as well as a five minute walk from the MTR. From there, you can get anywhere you want to go, plus Bus 973 is great for getting out to Stanley. If you’re willing to consider this option, of staying in Tsim Tsa Tsui, then look at Marco Polo Gateway or Marco Polo Prince, or YMCA Salisbury. All have rooms pretty spacious by Chinese standards, but you must ask for a room with 2 double beds. (If you don’t ask, your room might just have one bed.) If you want something that’s especially spacious, both Salisbury and MP hotels have family suites that consist of a room with a queen size bed plus a living room with a pullout double sleeper. (The Marco Polo HONG KONG, the third MP hotel in that group, does not have any rooms with two beds.)

If this is a family getaway and you don’t care about being in the city, up in New Territories, look at Gold Coast which has kids facilities your children would love (e.g. water slides) but which is a bit too far out of the city for a tourist (it’s made for weekend getaways out of Hong Kong really).

If none of these is doing it for you, check out hotels at http://www.zuji.com and look at their recommendations. The ones they mark with stars as “best buys” usually are. If you zero in on a particular hotel and aren’t sure if it offers what you need, you can contact Zuji directly and they’ll get the answer for you. Alternately, you could google the hotels sites themselves (for instance, on the Marco Polo corporation web site, the YMCA web site, Holiday Inn web site, the Gold Coast web site).

The Jockey Club Mt. Davis Youth Hostel is in a great location at the top of Mount Davis on Hong Kong Island. You can get a 4 bed room for HK$600 (about US$80) a night – or less if you join your home country’s youth hostel association.

I stayed there a few years ago. It is a little basic but great value for money. There is a self catering kitchen which could be useful if the children are not adventurous in what they eat. There are great views over the bay, and it is good to get fresh air being away from the town.

There is an occasional minibus to the hostel from Central or it is about 1 hour’s walk up the hill from Kenedy Town. Get a taxi when you first arrive with luggage.
