   There are a lot of hotels in Bangkok and Pattaya but I can recommend you to see detail of picture ,location and rate at here;

   Bangkok – try to select somewhere near BTS (sky train) or MRT (subway) station. if don’t want convenient traffic then try somewhere river view (very nice view). http://www.discovery-thailand.com/Hotels%20Map%20Pages/Sukhumvit%20Hotels%20Map.html

   I’m not sure about your budget and preference,

   For Bangkok, check out S Sukhumvit Suites. It looks decent and inexpensive for inner city area. Also it’s close to BTS and MRTstations for public transportation.
   For Pattaya, check out Holiday Inn Pattaya. It’s on Beach Road facing the beach. Its location’s nice and easy to go anywhere in Pattaya. Besides, it’s just opened, it’s very good deal!

   For Bangkok stay at Hotel Majestic Suites located on Soi 4 – Soi 6. I have stayed at about 15 hotels in different parts of the city and I find only this hotel best from the point of view of location, price and facilities. For God’s sake whatever other people might say, please do no stay in Hotel Dawin Nana in Sukhumvit Soi 4 and Hotel Grande Ville in Chinatown.
   For Pattaya out of the 5 differnt hotels I found Hotel Diamond Beach best.
