Because it is a key, the action of the ocean doesn't really lend itself to beaches. There are places to snorkel up and down the keys, and a nice place at Key West too. The beach isn't great; it's mostly crushed coral so it isn't very nice to walk on. Something like 35% of the year round population is gay, which some people (my dad) have a problem with. There are amazing restaurants, fun stored, and lots of stuff to see. You didn't say how old you are, but it might not be the best place to go for a younger person. If you have any input, stay at the Santa MAria suites. Best hotel ever. Personally, i love it there, but then I love good restaurants, I'm not bothered by gay people, and I love hot weather.
