I do not care for hotels, nor other luxuries most people like to experience whilst on a vacation.
Assuming I sleep in cheap hostels, motels, or even pay small families small amounts of money to stay, and not buying really expensive things… (still, clothes and essentials like soap, water, i would buy… clothes i hear are still pretty cheap).
How much money should I bring? I can always have an emergency credit card, so please don’t say bring an extra 00 just in case, even though I won’t spend it…
I am thinking 0 would be enough.
!@! for 2 months next summer, in India… Stay in various places… Delhi, mumbai, gujarat, punjab… and anywhere else I decide to go.
P.S. how much are train fares?
one thing, don’t forget to bring your own food when your traveling by train over there, other than that I think 700$-1000$ should be good enough for 2 months..
have fun!
You could live off a dollar there….
Ok but for real I was watching “ice road trucker’s deadliest roads” and one of the truckers in India literally bought out a candy stand for 12 US dollars. I think it came out to be something like 650 rupees.
So if you could buy a months worth of candy with a little more than 10 bucks I would think you could live off around 1 to 2 thousand dollars for 2 months. That should cover lodging, car rental, food, gas and anything else you might want to buy.
On a side note the current exchange rate for the rupee is 44.35 rupees per US dollar. However, I don’t know anything about price trends there.
I will say be careful though. I know India is an “American Friendly” country, but there are still people who will try to rob or otherwise scam you. So don’t buy any cheap knock offs of things sold as real antiques.
If you go to Punjab I hope you take the time to learn about Sheiks. They practice a very noble religion.
