I’d like to go for a couple of days to Catalina Island, on a tight budget, looking for the least expensive hotel, any suggestions?

The problem with looking for a “cheap hotel” on Catalina is that the whole island is run by families, not large hotel chains. So finding a hotel deal is not really possible.
The Hotel St. Lauren is generally the lowest priced hotel in Avalon, with prices ranging from about $75-$180.
I stayed at the Hotel Atwater. It’s really close to the boardwalk and I don’t remember it being super expensive. Not sure how tight your budget is, but I even got a package deal for the boat trip there and back, the room and a couple of sight seeing tours. (There’s an optional for a room with or without air conditioning. Get it without. It’s cheaper and you don’t really need it because Catalina is not super hot.)

You actually will find decent “deals” going into the off- season (winter excluding holidays)…The best place to go is the Cat.Chamber of Commerce Site…They have combo deals all the time and info about events and activities. However, I have never seen any real “steals” on Catalina Island…..but they do have the odd special deal…
there are quite a few sites that you can search that will likely show you great hotels at the best prices available. check out the website BookMe and you will be able to compare prices on all the reputable travel sites in just a couple minutes. it’s very convenient and will save you a bunch of time and money. Also, make sure you buy them online… otherwise they charge much higher fees for phone orders. good luck.
