You’re going to have to go for a hostel for that price from what I can tell. Even in the suburbs, hotels are usually £50 a night for a double.

try the Youth Hostel Association website – there are private hostels as well. you can search for them online.

30 pounds a night, is just not enough to get a hotel let alone a decent one.

Some bed and breakfast places on the outskirts may be your best option, and you might be lucky to get one for 40 per person per night.

You mention a decent hotel, but the reality is, a hostel for that kind of money, means sharing a bathroom with others, and most have four beds to a room.

    Good luck.

PS I left England four years ago, and know for sure the price has not come down since. I paid 84 pounds a night for two people about 20 years back.

The very best, cleanest and most central is the old German YMCA, close to both Paddingtonm Station and Lancaster Gate tube station, 2 minutes from Hyde Park. It now called the Lancaster Hall Hotel, is still highly subsidised by the German government, and has cheap rooms in their “youth wing”…open to all. Showers to die for, fabulous buffet breakfast and really sparkling clean. They are also very nice.

if you are coming in the summer a good option is university student accommodation – places like Kings College have several sites across teh city where the accommodation is under £30 – see http://www.kcl.ac.uk/about/structure/admin/facser/conbro/welcomeindex.html

apart from that hostels of various kinds are you main option – generally the hotels costing that will be located miles out of the centre of London or will not be especially pleasant

Check the travelodge.co.uk website, they often have specials where hotel rooms are nineteen pounds, you may have to be a little out of central london bu tmost are near tubes and trains.

beleive me ive been searching all week for cheap yet decent places to stay in London with little avail….and i can promise you are not even going to get a decent hostel for that price! Do not go any where near the webite travelstay, friends of mine have booked with it and once even had to call the police becauce people where knocking their door down at night, and the webite makes it impossible to put up a negative review!

The cheapest place i have found is The Easy Hotel, which is the same company as easy jet. If you are going with someone else for a double room to share with ensuite is £38 for a room with no window or £43 for a room with a window. There are 3 spots around london at kengington, earls court and victoria, all within 10mins walk to the underground. The prices ive put up are for earls court in April.
Ive stayed at the Earls court before last summer. There are plenty of pubs and restraunts around, and you are less than 10mins walk away from the underground which will take you everywhere you would want to go in London.
Its small, but very clean and you beds are changed every day and you get fresh towels, the showers and toilets are extremely clean and it really is the best place you can get if you are on a tight budget.

Ive been trying to find somewhere cheaper to no avail so i am happy to go back there although the prices have gone up a little from last summer. If you do concider anywhere else id advise you to check it out on the webite travel advisor, its unbiased customer reviews and some also have pictures up of the rooms and facilities, believe me its saved me from booking some really dire places!
    Hope this helps!
