    Here is the honest truth…
    You want to smoke pot….
You are going to have to pay…
They know it and their rooms are expensive…
But if you smoke enough dope,
eventually you get stoned enough that you won’t even remember doing it

i think the reason is bc of the pot smoking. or the drugs.. and hello its amsterdam

I think you are fooled by the star rating systems.
In Amsterdam 4 stars is a top hotel, there is no 5 star rating in that system.
The prices in Amsterdam are comparable with the NYC or LA areas of the USA, not with Mexico.

If you like the prices in Cancun better, please go there.
If you are just going for the coffee shops you better stay home too, Amsterdam has more pothead tourists than that are welcome.

Most potheads do not stay in 4 star hotels, they stay in unrated hotels or hostels.
Four star hotels are for the very rich, who might still use pot or other kinds of drugs, but will not complain about the cost of a hotel.
If you can not pay their rates, you do not belong in a hotel like that, there are enough cheaper ones around.

I’m with Willeke all the way on this one and hence why I answer this time as well

Judging by your other answers about laughing and walking out of shops, of dismissing people here and being only here for the coffeeshops, you are the exact type of tourist that Amsterdam is sick and tired of and hopefully with the forthcoming law changes which no longer permit access of non-residents to coffeeshops, then the problem is solved ie you no longer have the problem of trying to find a hotel because there’s no point (no coffeeshops = no point for you I assume) and then this will give more space and a nicer amience for other tourists and locals alike who want to interact on a level of respect and to enjoy what is a beautiful city with a lot to offer other than coffeeshops

On another note you clearly have not done much homework. (Assuming you are British from your other questions so converting to pounds to make it abundantly clear to you!) then you can get a hotel I(hostel even cheaper) for 14 nights for less than £25 in June/July which is tourist season already so £350. As someone who enjoys pedandic questions then I did the research using for the same dates in Cancun from London and the cheapest flight on offer was £593 and of course without then transfers and accomodation in a 5*+ hotel. http://www.skyscanner.net/flights/lond/cun/110618/110702/airfares-from-london-to-cancun-in-june-2011-and-july-2011.html

So you “don’t get it” Somehow I think you don’t “want” to get it!

Cancun has always been and is a cheap destination. It is touristy and full of Mexicans. You get what you pay for.

If you want a lesser expensive hotel, then stay at a 2 star hotel, or even a 1 star. The reason it cost so much, is because you want to stay there for 14 nights. Why 14? Why not less than that, similar to 6 Nights, that would be much, much cheaper, even if you want to stay at a 4 or 5 star hotel, stay for a smaller amount of time.
